The D100 is no different than the F5. I had the time, sort of, to shoot quite a few photos with the D100, I mean lots. Funny how sloppy you get when burning film isn't a consideration, and with the microdrive burning film isn't anywhere near a consideration. When I turned the D100 on after installing the microdrive I was amazed, 318 available shots. Yesterday being the first day playing with the new toy I was very sloppy and shooting wildly. I went to a fireworks display last night and shot upwards of 200 photos, it's just too easy. One thing that impressed me is that the 200 shots didn't affect the battery at all, it still read full on the indicator. Although past experience tells me that the indicators are not as accurate as I would like. Normally it's either at 100% or 0, I'll have to see if the D100 acts the same way. If it doesn't, then that is truly amazing, over 200 shots on a charge. In continuous shooting mode I was able to squeeze off ten shots before the camera needed a break, don't know if that was the end of the buffer capacity or the need of the microdrive to catch up. Still, 10 shots is pretty impressive when you consider that there is very little lag. The resolution is truly amazing; the shots taken with higher end Nikon glass were unbelievable. I printed a test sheet of 5X7's on the Olympus P400 and put a loupe to it and was amazed. One of the pictures was of the back of the house which is heavy with my wife's garden. The detail was stunning, color rendition was spot on. I did see some color variation in a few of the shot and am not really sure what caused this as I didn't change position much. I took a few shots with the onboard flash and am not impressed, although I didn't spend much time working with the flash settings. I've never been a fan of Nikon on board flash. I'll have to wait and see what the battery life is like using the flash. All in all I am pretty impressed with the camera. Do I like shooting it better than the M6? No, the M6 pretty much sent my F5 into hibernation, I think I will use the D100 much more than I did the F5 just for its ease of use. The major drawback to this camera is the heavy Nikon glass; it's easier to carry an M6 with three lenses than the F5 and one lens. I'm thankful that I'm fortunate to be able to have all three. I got it. D100 Sam, This mostly lurking Leica user would like to hear more as you put the D100 through it's trials, sort of like the long-term follow up reports in auto mags. Comparisons to how it changes/affects your shooting compared to your Leica would be cool, too. I use my M6 almost every day as a wander the streets suring my lunch hour and after word to miss the commute traffic. However, on the weekends, I surf and the camera that gets the most use is an F4s. I really need autofocus and at least 400mm for surfing pics. Since I've already got an assortment of decent Nikkor glass, I'll likely replace the F4s with a Nikon digital SLR in the mid-term future and would like to hear user reports rather than magazine fluff. Especially from someone with a with which to Leica to compare it. I got it. D100 Mark, Speak for yourself "we leica users". This topic has been discussed before. Many times. Get off your holier than thou leica pulpit. The reason I asked the question here is that I value the brainpower that resides on this list. Next time don't read OT posts if they bother you. As a matter of fact, don't read any of my posts, as I don't particularly care to interact with you. Have a nice day.
