I tried to send this all morning, but AOL was screwed up. (What else is new).
As far as I can tell, it never went out.

A few excuses/ways to avoid the spouse/signifigant other's wrath...

1. NEVER use the household checking book or credit card account for your
purchases. Start some sort of slush fund and buy using cash or money order.

2. Buy all your bodies the same- either all black, or all of them chrome.
It's easier to hide them that way.

3. Only keep one or two bodies and lenses in plain view at a time. Rotate
them in and out of storage so one or the other doesn't stand out to the wife/
S.O. Store your gear in Rubbermaid plastic boxes at the bottom of a closet,
and just one camera bag 'ready to go', don't keep your stuff out, lining 6
shelves in the study.

4. NEVER leave shipping boxes and their packing peanuts in the house after a
purchase. If you need to return the item, go out and get another box, they're
not that difficult to find.

5. If you DO get snagged by the signifigant other as you are tearing through
those packing peanuts and pulling out that brand new M7 and lens, break down,
drop to the floor, and become a blathering fool, screaming "It's all THOSE
guy's fault on the LUG" over and over.

6. If #5 above doesn't work on her/him, you'll be forced to resort to the
"last resort" to save your marriage/relationship and OK a similarly-priced
item that she/he has wanted but you've resisted. (example- new living-room,
new dining-room furniture, wallpapering the dining-room, etc.)
Just don't get caught opening the boxes of that 8-Leica body, all-collector
items from eBay, including the gold commemorative model. THAT'LL cost you a
new BMW M5 SUV. Have enough sense to have those cameras shipped to your work
address for God's sake!
