(BSD > UNIX) Actually there were a few before. Minix was what Linux was designed around. SCO was a popular UNIX variant that ran on x86(now defunct). Solaris for x86 has been around for some time(though recently killed off). Linux, however, was the first to be 100% free (as in freedom), and to put a more modern UI on top of it. > For any of you daring enough, Id recommend getting RedHat 7.2 and > installing it onto an empty partition on a PC (Dual Boot) and trying GIMP > (Graphical Image Manipulation Tool) its sortof a free Photoshop. :) I use the Gimp exclusively (and I fully admit that my other email address ends in @redhat.com so I am indeed biased). The Gimp is really much further along than people realize though. It does everything I need it to do, to the point where I have absolutely no need for Photoshop. It even has a scripting language to make tasks I perform a great deal much easier. Again, I am biased. Cheers, Dave - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
