Rei,

I was a bit apprehensive too, but when I had an opportunity to buy a Rollei
35S for about 200 Euro (~$175) in December, I went for it just to try.
Surprisingly, the lack of rangefinder has not so far been a major problem.
Sure, it would have been nicer to have one, but I have done pretty well
even at f2.8 at 2-3 meter distance. Granted, with my M3+Summilux I
photograph people at f1.4 from 1 meter away, but even among those shots
there is a considerable number of misses. The little Rollei is a wonderful
pocket camera that I carry with me on trips where even a Leica is too much
(I do not wear clothes that make a Leica M with a lens pocketable), and the
optical quality is excellent. Best of all, I have total manual control and
battery-independent operation (except for the meter, of course), two
features which I really appreciate. That is why my autofocus pocket camera
is on sale now.
