That's your mistake. Keep in mind that there are over a hundred million people living in the US that are dumber than the average American. That's pretty frightening. :) Explaining an aspect ratio to somebody who is math-challenged isn't going to be an easy task. It's easier not to have to explain. Seriously. Don't show a proof if the exact same image can't be ordered. I'd suggest going with 8x10s since that's more of a standard size. So take the 4x6 prints and chop them down to 4x5 proofs. That might mean when you're shooting to be aware that the aspect ratio of what you see isn't going to be the same as what you print. I can't get most people to recognize how handsome I am either. :) A good portrait is quite subjective. If she feels it detracts by chopping off her kid's feet, then it isn't a good portrait for her.
