I couldn't agree with you more. The checks go in the bank the same way,
Leica or not.
I once had three images run in the same issue, taken with a Leica, a
Rollei and a Coolpix 990. Of all the shots, the output from the Coolpix
looked the best. A bit disheartening, but what the heck.
Myself, I'll cover a lot of events and activities that are not assigned.
Eventually they do get picked up. Shooting on digital media saves me a
whole lot of effort and capital best placed somewhere else.
A few weeks ago, after receiving weekly emails about a garment workers'
action, I decided to go cover it. It was a Saturday. On the following
Wednesday, I receive a call from The Progressive magazine, asking me if
I had anything on it. I e-mailed the two images right away for the
current issue. I did use my Rollei, but I've yet to process the film
from that shoot.
Today I covered a demonstration by hospital workers with the Coolpix,
and my M6. I'll probably develop the film at the end of whenever, or
maybe next year. The digital file, however, will earn its keep right away.
The way things are going, I'll probably get the new canon digital EOS by
the end of the year.
