The formal announcement of the end of the OM system is just Public Relations caca. The OM system (of which I'm a 25+ year user) has been dead for about 5-6 years. Olympus just doubled the prices on the OM gear to keep it "alive" until their new system was available. The new system is supposed to be 1/12000 sec, use a new 5Mg Kodak CCD, sport a new designed-for-digital lens mount, be a true SLR, etc.... It should be interesting if Olympus can shake up the camera market in 2002 the way it did 30 years ago in 1972 when the OM-System was introduced. Hopefully the new camera system will be a ground-breaking system designed with a new compact, digital philosophy in mind. I'll be in the market for a digital SLR in 2-3 years, it's good news for me. Meanwhile I'll keep using my OM-4Ti's and Leica M's. Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2002 13:32:52 +0800 i AM SO SAD...... Have to go into mourning..... My OM4Ti sits next to my Leica R7(just to get back on topic) Its really a wonderful camera (the OM I mean.....) Small and compact, can carry alot more lenses compared to the R7 + lenses...... It even flash syncs to 1/2000......! Quite a useful feature despite the limiting subject distance..... Sigh......
