I'm not a lawyer, but last time I looked at trade marking a name, you had to
pick a category for the trademark.  BMW may be trade marked for one
category, but that doesn't mean everybody is prohibited from using those
initials.

Apple Records (think Beatles) and Apple Computer are examples.  When the
latter introduced the Mac which had lots of music/sound capabilities, the
former went back to court.  I don't remember what happened.  Either the
court said that still wasn't close enough or they reached a settlement out
of court.

I suspect that BMW Engineering would be prohibited.  :)
