Subject: [Leica] R8 Purchase Decisions

Well, I made it to Southern California and even found a Leica dealer a few
blocks away from my in-law's house. He works out of his home. I was going
to look for an R7 to replace that R4 as suggested my many on the LUG, but
now that I got to hold an play with an R8 at his business I am going to get
one. I have a few more questions for you experts.

He is selling a new, in the box, sealed, German one for $1300. I think this
is a good price. I don't know the serial # but could find out. I have
heard I should stay away from first run models, but I don't know how blown
out of proportion that is. Were there really that many failures? Should I
be concerned?

It comes with the international warranty, as it was not exported through
Leica-USA. He, however, said that he includes the Leica USA Passport
warranty so I could choose which one I wanted to use. That doesn't sound
quite right. I don't know how if the serial # was not listed for Leica USA
that the USA warranty could be covered, unless he adds an extra charge to
the camera. I am not clear on this. Does anyone know more?

I am also looking at a first run from a LUG member and am leaning towards
him. Just in case he reads this and is curious.

Aram
