Subject: [Leica] LHSA And The LEICA CATALOG

I have followed this discussion with interest.

The LEICA CATALOG is no grand treasure, guys. Members post mundane items
at grossly inflated prices. A few of the LHSA membership curse us every
Friday with the identical adverts they run in the CATALOG, 25% or more
above what the same item can be had for elsewhere. Over the past decade, I
probably have purchased a dozen small items through the CATALOG and have
sold maybe the same number. E-Bay is better: the fair market knocks the
wind out of the windbags, so to speak.

You overseas guys are missing little. The one nice thing about the LEICA
CATALOG is the rigidly applied grading standards and the guarantee which
goes with this. (But, even then, beware! Some apparently knowledgeable
buyers cannot comprehend just what PR means!)

Pray, join LHSA, be you user or collector or whatever. But do not expect
anything exciting out of the CATALOG. You will find rather dull offerings
at grotesquely embarrassing prices. Expect little, and your anticipations
will be well met.
