Thanks but maybe I worded my question incorrectly. I would like to
understand how to calculate the required exposure time, my watch has a
pretty good second hand in order to time the exposure itself :)

use a stopwatch. or the second hand on your watch.

when you get into 10 to 20 second exposures, being off by a second or two
really doesn't matter anyway.
