For a long time R lenses were made with all three cams and with the advent of rom the price difference between 2 cam and lenses with all three cams has come together. With the exception of the 19 and 35 1.4 I believe you can use any of the lenses with an R mount and all three cams so you are not limited to 2 cam lenses I have three 90's the first 90 Elmarit, the newer Elmarit, and the Summicron. The Elmarits are crisper at @.2.8 than the Summicron but after that it doesn't matter. The newest Elmarit is marginally better than the old one, but I keep the old one because the Elpro's let me get down to around 1/2 life size. I agree with Doug Herr that if the price is right go for the 90 Summicron as the extra stop is worth while. One last point regarding cams, don't be afraid of the single cam lenses, the SL can use them in stopped down metering and the price of one cam lenses is way down there as long as not in collectable condition. For wide angles if price is the absolute driving force then the two cam 35 2.8 is the orphan child of the universe and can be had real cheap. I would recommend that you find one of the 28's. The first generation's price has started to drop so you might find a bargain. Who knows, you might find a 21 cheap, just be careful not to get the one that requires mirror lock up. For macro, find some two element close up lenses for whichever 90 you buy. The ELPRO's are superb but you can use Minolta's at 55mm, Nikon's at 52 and 62, or Canon's at 58, 72, or 77 with stepping rings. When you can afford the 100 2.8 that is the way to go for true macro, unless you would want to consider a 180 APO with some extension...
