That gives me time to put the fix in a graduated cylinder which goes into a bucket of hot water. Put a thermometer in, stir and pull when the temp is right. The temp wont fall more than a degree which is just fine. Even with rapid fix at 5 minutes I still have time to bring the Hypo clear up to temp. Really, a piece of cake as long as you don't get real nervous if temp downstream of the developer vary a degree or so: which doesn't matter even in color. If you are using a developer combination that runs less than ten minutes then just have enough graduated cylinders and thermometers for all your solutions and bring them up to temp prior to starting. If cost is an issue then check out flea markets and the photo swap meets: right now developer tanks are going for a song. Last month I picked up a 4 reel tank and a 8 reel tank with reels for $10.
