Clips are totally unnecessary once the routine of loading is learned. In fact on some brand of reels, the clips or whatever cinching system is used can be a hindrance. I went a step further and wound a portion of the wire from the removed clip around 3 of the four central posts to form a *film stop* so that the inserted leader cannot slip beyond the reel hub.
