In early 1990's Formula One (newly crowned) World Champ Nigel Mansel became unhappy with his F-1 contract and told his team where to go. So what's he to do? Come to the USA and go Indy Car racing. He won the first race of the season--his first Indy car race. He was nothing short of sensational. By the time he got to Indianapolis, in May, there was literally a media frenzy around him. The pits are always crowded but with Nigel there a ton of international media came to town. One practice day we (!) were all shooting a lot of him. Everybody (most) uses flash in the pits at Indy because of the hats, helmets and bright sunshine. You really need to fill-in the shadows. This day it was bothering Nigel (actually, everything bothered him, but that's another story). There were alot of photogs shooting. Anyway, he went to an official to complain ( a few of us overheard the conversations and most of us decided to just back off). In the middle of his tirade to this official about the number of flashes blinding him a French photographer ran up and popped off about five shots in about three seconds directly in Nigels face. Nigel was jumping up and down mad, and the rest of us were practically on the ground laughing. John Fulton Fort Worth - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
