...and handholding a 180 Summicron for any length of time is quite a challenge!

With each new IS lens Canon has advanced the technology. It is now 
good enough to use on a tripod, to reduce the effects of mirror slap. 
With previous lenses they said one should turn the IS off when 
shooting off a tripod.
