Jo,

If your aim really is just web display, then a scanner like the HP
Photosmart will do just fine at moderate cost. If, on the other hand, you
also want to make high-quality inkjet prints, then you should consider a
high-end scanner like the new Nikon LS-4000. In between you have the older
scanners such as the Nikon LS-2000, Polaroid Sprintscan, and also Canon and
Minolta models that scan in the 2700-2800 dpi range. These are also quite
good and can be had for reasonable prices now that a new generation of 4000
dpi scanners is out.
