The R7 can do everything an R6 can do, and more. I guess I'm high tech, because I really like aperture preferred auto exposure. That's one gadget I use a lot. It's also why at times I prefer to use my R7 over my M6. The M6 is my all manual body. As much as I like the R7, I've handled an R8 quite abit, and I agree with what you say. The R8, though slightly larger, would be my first choice today. It really feels more balanced, especially with larger lenses like the 80-200. One feature that draws me to the R8 is flash preview. Since I use monolights or a portable Lumedyne, that would be a very handy feature which all other R bodies lack. I did have to replace the complete shutter assembly, and a misc. spring in the lens mount assembly. Other than that it seems to be a decent camera. If I had to do it again, I would get an R8. Battery, schmattery, the electronically timed cameras are much quieter, as they don't that obnoxious follow through mechanical gear sound. Frankly, I can't see not being able to keep spare batteries at this point.
