I did go to the Schneider web site who is the distributor for B&W filters in the US, and they actually list a Kasemann in both Linear and Circular, showing two different part numbers. It sounds like the Kasemann is the more durable filter as far as moisture and dust. I do remember reading that Kasemann translates to "encased". - -----Original Message----- From: Jim Brick [mailto:jim_brick@agilent.com] Sent: Monday, July 02, 2001 10:57 AM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us; leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: [Leica] Re: Heliopan Circular Polarizer Filter B+W and Heliopan are both premium filters. There is basically no difference in optical qualities. B+W makes the best overall assortment of filter types and sizes. For an R8, you want a circular polarizer, not a Kaesemann. A Kaesemann filter is linear and hermetically sealed. Actually the best in terms of durability but very expensive and not circular in construction. Buy a B+W E60 circular polarizer. Multicoated if you wish. Jim
