Just put your film through the X-ray, no harm will be done as long as you do not put it in checked luggage. The modern hand luggage inspection machines are harmless unless you take the same film through them many times, and even then you are only likely to see damage with high-speed film like D3200 or TMZ.

Frankly, I find the inspector's reaction in Hawaii entirely reasonable. Most people have not heard of infrared film, and looking at it from her point of view, you did act in a strange way.
