I for one have used the Leica Passport warranty, and it wasn't even for a
product defect. Without going into the gory details, I'll just say that I
dropped my M6TTL on the rewind crank, which was damaged. I returned it to
Leica, expecting to pay at least something for the repair. Two weeks
later, the camera was returned to me as new. No charge; all covered under
the passport warranty. When I bought the M6TTL last year with 50mm
Summicron, I paid 10% off list (Leica day) and in addition collected $300
in rebates for the camera and lens. For the quality of the product, I
don't think the price is excessive. Also, while in Australia last year, I
noted that Leicas there cost several hundred dollars more than in the US.
So, I also hope Leica USA makes a profit so they can remain in business.
And, at the same time, I thank them for being more than reasonable with
customers.
