Navigation by latitude has absolutely nothing to do with a clock. It is independent of time. All that is required is to measure the angle of the sun to the horizon when it is at its highest, otherwise known as local noon, do a simple calculation and you have latitude. Longitude is probably what you were drifting towards as it is totally reliant on the exact time. The invention of the cronometer by Harrison, a professional clockmaker, allowed the navigator to calculate his longitude. But I get your drift. To continue the drift, you cast your net a little too wide to justify the amateur. Apart from that, I am sure that the next time you boarded a plane you would be very interested in the professional qualifications of the crew. Or, heavan forbid, if you ever lay on an hospital operating table, you would hope that the guy with the knife had some formal training. Too obvious to mention really. Methinks, you protest to much about criticism and are guilty of feeding the grovellers. Why can't you just be comfortable with yourself? Thats advice from an amateur psychiatrist so don't dare disagree with it. Erwin, take criticism on the chin. Alan (feeling punny) distribute the :-) :-) :-) in the above as you wish.
