[Leica] Shutter Break question and Help in Australia

Hi all,
I'm a new member to your list, so hello ladies and gents.

I've been reading for a while with some interest, however, I now have a
couple of
questions I am hoping you may be able to help with please.

I am using my wife's treasured M5 and have re-kindled my love for
photography.

While using the M5 I have noticed that an over-exposed line is now
appearing on the
negatives (and prints of course) This line varies between 1 to 4mm on the
35mm neg and
appears to become more invasive during the use of higher shutter speeds.

On talking to a rep on the Leica website, he suggested that he talked to a
service guy
who said it was to do with shutter-break? and that I best send the camera
over to be serviced.

My quesitons:

- - Can anyone please explain what the shutter break is exactly?

and

- - at the moment we are just using the M5 with the allowance of the
over-exposed line, i.e excluding
any possible picture from 'that bit of the neg' as to post the M5 to
Germany and get fixed is
very expensive I believe.
Can anyone suggest an option to have this looked at in Australia and any
ideas on cost etc.?
