I also have several 3-cam lenses: 19mm Elmarit, 60mm Macro Elmarit, and 180mm Elmarit. I can assure you that the R8 does NOT suffer any damage from 3-cam lenses. The only difference between ROM and non-ROM lenses is that the ROM lenses transmit the focal length to the flash if you are using a dedicated SCA module and the flash has a zoom head (like the Metz line). In every other respect the functionality on the R8 of ROM and 3-cam lenses is identical. Incidentally, you can put any Leica R lens on an R8, even the 2-cam or 1-cam lenses, but in that case you will have to use stop-down metering. But there will never be any damage. I have used the extender on my 60mm macro, and it works and gives 1:1 reproduction. Although I must say that I prefer my 100mm Apo Macro with the Elpro attachment. The 60mm is an excellent lens in its own right and I use it as the standard lens on my SL. The macro facility on the 35-70mm Vario Elmar (which I also have) is highly useful but does not replace a real macro lens if you want to photograph bugs and the like.
