Why it was changed I do not know but, as far as I understand, the later M3 and all the M2 cameras and up have the current shutter curtain braking system. The older cameras have also been seen a great deal more use so things have settled in nicely. My M2 is not much quieter than my M6TTL but the noise is of a different frequency which I find less intrusive. I will report back in forty years on how the two compare then. :-) John Collier > From: "Darren Lew" <dlew@interport.net> > > i've been looking at a first year of production m3 that's in beautiful > condition. > > it's expensive, but i've never had any m camera in my hand as quiet as this > one. the release of the shutter is like plunging into butter. > > i don't know the history of this camera, so i don't know if it was serviced > or if it's always been this way. > > i've heard of leica service people who are adept at using certian lubricants > and oils to make m cameras very, very quiet. > > can anyone confirm this? > > can anybody recommend any such service person?
