I have a 15 year old Durst M601 w/ colorhead and a 25 year old Besseler 23C
condenser. The Durst is newer and far superior. Once focused, it never
strays. I like the Durst a lot. It will enlarge up to 6X6. The glass
carrier is a bit diffucult to keep clean but dust is not as much of a
problem as with the condenser head on the Besseler. If you find an old
Durst, make sure that you get the recessed lens mount for 35mm. The
colorhead of the M601 does not correspond to the latest Durst densitometric
scale, but with experience it works fine for color work and B&W variable
contrast work.
