I am currently in Seattle, which my Russian-born wife pronounces
See-YET-tul.

But I grew up in Lexington, Mass., which some of my schoolmates pronounced
Lex'nton. When they were excited, they said that things were "wicked" or
"pissah." Sometimes my parents took me clothes shopping at Jowd'n Maahsh
in Peebu-dee. When I was in high school and college, Haahv'd Squayuh was a
great place to do street photography.

I miss the way they taahk up theyah. So I listen to Caah Talk on NPR, or
watch Rachel Dratch on Saturday Night Live ("you ah so retaahded!").
