Hi Gary,

in manual mode, the speeds are locked in at the indicated speed provided
you don't move the dial, which can happen, so it's wise to check now and
then.  In A and P modes, the shutter speed is continuously variable.  I
tested this in a darkish room, using A mode.  The readout showed
something like 24 seconds but I timed the exposure with my watch (cheap
Seiko) at about 21 seconds.  This speed does not vary with changes in
light during a long exposure like that - the meter reading is locked in
before the exposure - according to my method.
