I've used IS lenses and they are remarkable. One thing you should be aware of,
is that while it might stabilize your motion it can't do anything about the
motion of the photographed object. Found that out the hard way. The optics on
the non L lenses leave something to be desired. I'm still waiting for the
35-350 to go IS.
Why not ride in the cargo plane? Those young jocks are always looking to loop
the lunch on us old timers. The CG is very accommodating, but heck, what's the
matter with tagging along on a "case" as they call it. I photographed them
during their bicentennial in 1990 as a personal project for the whole year. I
did some work on their island in the bay area and at the air base in
Sacramento, it's some of the best personal work I have.
