Getting silver recovery to pay for itself is one of those B.S. lines that
the salesman give you.  Our silver recovery unit cost $1200 (attached to a
$6K film processor) and I think we get <$100 back from the recylcer each
year after we've probably but $5-6K of X-ray film through the thing.  

If you want to have some fun, put anything a shiny new penny into used
fixer...PRESTO!, silver plated penny!
