Bill Maxwell is a smart, knowledgeable and likeable fellow who really does make the best focussing screens in the world (for Alpa, amongst others). I also have his 4.5f (I think it is called) on my Sinar and it is wonderful. OTOH I have not (yet) gone the Maxwell route for my R8s: I have a grid screen in one and a microprism in the other. I find the split image SLR screens an abomination but the microprism is handy for slower zooms and low light. The Maxwell-ed R6 grid screen is superior to both: brighter, sharper and easier to focus. Before AF I never used zooms with my SLRs since I found them unwieldy and hard to focus in a rush but I have a couple on trial with my Rs...that 80-200 is great. > Hi Lucien, > > There is gentleman in Decatur, GA, Bill Maxwell, who makes high-quality > loupes (I just ordered a 4x 6x7cm loupe from him) and focusing screens > for just about any camera on earth.
