Go here and page down to "Polarizer Answer".  This shows the Leica Swing-out
Polarizer designed for Leica M cameras.   Note that this is a linear
polarizer.   Circular polarizers are not necessary for rangefinder cameras.

How do you use a linear Polarizer on a leica or any rangefinder, if you
can't not see the effect you want. I thought with the leica one, you can
switch between the viewfinder and the lens, which gives precisely the effect
desired but how to achieve the same thing using a linear which cost a lot
less?

I do wear a broad brimmed Tilley Hat and it does do that function!
