Take a look at the Metz 34 CS-2 ($148 at B&H).   It has auto exposure but no
TTL support.   It can be used in a hot shoe or (with available PC
connectors) with older cameras like the M2/3/4.   It was designed for
rangefinder cameras.

I don't think Bogen's show it on their site but you can see it at B&H or you
can go to the German Metz site.

It's relatively powerful and will fit in your shirt pocket.
