welcome to the list! The answer to your question is that black lens barrels
are made from black anodized aluminium. Chrome lenses are made from
chrome plated brass, as chrome plating of aluminium is not possible with
high quality. I think neither of the two versions is better or more durable
than the other, but the problem is somewhere in the black magic of
electroplating.
