I wrestled with that same decision.  I ended up with the Summicron, because
I knew I wanted the speed.  (Hope to have a Noctilux someday soon)  I am
glad I made that choice.  In use, with the screw-in hood on the Elmarit, it
is about the same size as the Summicron.  I think the Elmarit has better
flare control wide open, but other than that, the Summicron is just a darn
fine all-round lens.  It is my most used as well.

I agree the Elmarit has a cool, retro look and I may add one someday, but
the Summicron is the choice I made and am very happy with that.
