Guys:

Sorry to be late in getting back to you about the focusing tab from Leica.
The piece that I have came directly from Leica parts department. The man
that I talked to about my desire to put a focusing tab on the current
version 50 Summicron cautioned me that it couldn't be done without
disassembling the lens because the retaining screw comes from the inside
out.. I told him I was still interested in getting one. So the one he sold
me is from the the previous version. It is simple, made of plastic, has two
"nubs" sticking out from the underside for positioning on the lens barrel
and has a recessed barrel for receiving the retaining screw. It cost
$15.00, came in an unlabeled plastic bag and is much smoother and rounded
than the one on my 35 Summicron ASPH.

My plan is to either carefully put two notches in the Summicron barrel to
accept the "nubs" and epoxy it to the lens. Conversely, I was thinking
about grinding the nubs smooth and mounting. Tom A is an expert and has
assured me it will work. I'm just nervous - no guts for taking glue and
tools to my relatively expensive lens. I like the tie-wrap idea to be sure
I want a tab on this lens.

Hope this helps,
Rick
