My 50 Summicron, which is the newer type with built-in hood, is a great lens but the hood collapses back way too easy. I feel much better with my Dual Range Summicron fitted with the 12585 hood. Basically any situation which illuminates the front of the lens directly when the light source is out of frame is going to flare to some extent, even but you may be able to flag it off. When the light source is *in* frame you can't flag, and you are relying on the quality of the optics and the lack of a filter!! - -- [Austin] Agreed....how about a shade or a rotating set ;-) - ------------------
