Subject: [Leica] A good time in Denver

The first meeting of the Denver Area Leica User's Group on the 29th of
January was most enjoyable for me, what with our diverse equipment
choices and shooting styles.

Henry Chu's photos of family and friends reveal a keen sense of timing
and I do believe he's given some of us Noctilux envy!

Not one to confine his efforts to a single brand of camera, Robb
Williamson has put his Fuji 6x17 to very good use and his grand
landscapes make quite a sight when lined up on the light table, each
transparency mounted in black presentation mats.

Bill Nelsch for the moment, seems to be our sole R user. Of particular
note was his Kodachrome shot of a clothesline before a painted
wall--very subtle colors and seemingly monochromatic at first glance.

I think my own photos impressed the least number of people but I like to
think that it's my black and white printing skills which were mostly
lacking--I am pleased with how quickly things are improving in this
regard (for starters, I have finally discovered that Ilford MGIV prints
soft with white light, and that soft printing and Neutrol NE developer
gave me tonality all right, but also a muddy overall look. Dektol and a
little bit of magenta filtering seem to be what's needed.) Funny, I had
intended to bypass conventional printmaking, yet my Epson Photo 1200 and
Photoshop LE 5 have seen little use so far! I'll deal with them later.
