Well, it probably helps a lot.  This one displays a serial number 3485738
and Leica factory number 11310.  I assume yours is the latest and greatest
pre-/ASPH Summicron?  If so, it does answer the question.

If it helps at all, mine clearly says 'Lietz' in white lettering on the
mount
surrounding the front element and then engraved underneath near the lens
mounting plate in small black on black lettering are the words 'Made in
Canada'.   The number is 3397xxx.   Up until now I had not even noticed the
words 'Made in Canada' and had assumed it to be German, so the words sure
wouldn't show on a photo on Ebay
