The bummer with this is that the retail price from Leica to do this is
around $80. And you probably don't want to do the swap-over without the
special tool.

For those of us with glasses ho have several older bodies, it starts to get
expensive.

Anyone have any more cost effective ideas?

I think you can have it swapped out for the rubberized M6 eyepiece.
