It goes to a different small town in Missouri every year (has to be big enough to have a hotel for 50 photographers and 20 staff members). Students -- everything from college students to freelancers to well known newspaper and magazine photographers -- come in to shoot a picture story. They have to sell the story idea to a panel of editors -- made up of prominent picture editors and photographers (National Geographic, Life magazine caliber). Once the story is approved they have three days and only 10 rolls of film to pull it off. All the while they're getting feedback and/or abuse from their editors. There are evening critiques and presentations all week and finally on the next to the last day the students do a layout -- condensing their images into a final story. There is also a show for the town people to come in and see prints. It's quite a deal. It's been called a sulphuric acid enima . . . Anyway, the point is that you go to the web site or look at the book you'll see fabulous images that were made in Nowheretown, Nothing County, USA. The Human Condition is the Human Condition. No matter where you go. Bob (there's a photo on the next block) McEowen
