If only judges had the same sensibilities as ourselves!
It is for this reason many years ago that I took a great distaste to 
competitions. Exhibitions, yes, but competitions provide nothing but 
consent and dissent. Mostly consent from the majority of the entrants at 
'playing the game' and providing images which have been nurtured in a 
similar culture, or dissent from those brave enough to enter work that can 
stretch the boundaries or ask for more than mere recognition from the 
'judge'.
Judges are nothing more than the rest of us, they have their preferences, 
their knowledge and their ideas. I prefer to leave them to it and develop 
my exhibitionist tendencies elsewhere!

This year I have entered pictures into every month
in the Amateur Photographer competition,
and only once did I make it into top 30. That would be OK if I thought that
the images that did get published were superior to mine, but that is not
