It is for this reason many years ago that I took a great distaste to competitions. Exhibitions, yes, but competitions provide nothing but consent and dissent. Mostly consent from the majority of the entrants at 'playing the game' and providing images which have been nurtured in a similar culture, or dissent from those brave enough to enter work that can stretch the boundaries or ask for more than mere recognition from the 'judge'. Judges are nothing more than the rest of us, they have their preferences, their knowledge and their ideas.
