If you were to read Rowell's rundown on his equipment in "Galen Rowell's Vision" or in many of his columns in OP, you'd know that his mainstay body from the day it was released was an F4s (until the F5 came along) and he always carried the 80-200 2.8 AF which was equipped with the add-on tripod bracket, along with a whole slew of lenses from 15mm on up. He used the n90/n90s as a second body (it weighs about an ounce less than the R8). Only on mountain climbs did/does he carry a lightweight, minimalist setup.
