Most of the dander we comb out of the LUG is comprised of aggressive misprisions, knee-jerk reaction, and thoughtless vaporing, usually accompanied by some pious appeal to civility and relevance, both of which are patently transgressed in the post itself. Years ago I was researching a biography of an early 19th mineralogist who received a nice bit of wisdom from a friend in New York: "In our endeavor to be right, let us not be righteous overmuch."
