Leica has their niche, and would do best to stay in it. The minute Leica becomes a "me too" camera manufacturer and forgets their roots, they are done for. What makes a Leica a Leica? Why are they so special? What makes the Leica suited to one kind of photography, and not so well suited to another? Does Leica sacrifice their traditional solid construction of lenses to accommodate AF? These are all questions Leica needs to ponder, as well as the Leica users. It seems as if Herr Cohn is determined to forge ahead with some sort of strategic alliance with some Far Eastern partner for an AF SLR. Hopefully, they will choose their partner well and not compromise their principles and reputation to merely have an AF SLR. Focus confirmation? Not too hard to accomplish and the R8 should have had it from the beginning! It would certainly make me happy. One thing is certain. With Herr Cohn at the helm, change is coming at Leica. Hopefully, he will make the right decisions for the company. Bill Rosauer
