The GPIB port is an early hardware interface designed by HP, I
think.  If so, then there is a freely available standard, and
someone with experience with early HP equipment can help you.  

There will be two issues:

1.  getting some converter box to allow you to connect it to SCSI or
parallel or serial -this will probably be the easiest problem to
solve.  If you can find out some specs about the port check out some
scientific software companies - they will know where to find the
hardware.

2.  The other issue is what format are the bits in.  If it is an
established standard format like JPEG or TIFF then you are set;
otherwise you will need to find special software that will let you
convert the image to a usable format.
