I think what you are seeing on the site, is as you said earlier, young 
photographers whose style and abilities are not yet fully developed.

It is soooo easy to shoot a bunch of photos and stick them together and 
call it a photo story.  On the other hand it is harder than hell to shoot 
a true story and have it tell something where the whole is greater than 
any of its parts.  This is what distinguishes the really great from those 
who aspire to be really great someday.

This stuff is an example of what my PJ teacher used to call the shotgun 
approach.  You shoot every image you see and hope there is some way to 
link them all together in some coherent way after the fact.  In reality 
you have to be always thinking of the story and how to be certain all 
aspects of it are illustrated. Beginning middle and end.
