It would seem presumptuous to just drop in on him, totally unannounced.  If
I were his age, I wouldn't appreciate such a visit one bit.  The proper
thing to do would have been to start a correspondence well in advance of
your trip, particularly with a gentleman of HCB's era.

Good grief, let the poor guy have his peace.

HCB doesn't see strangers. He's not on display. His rep says he's old,
has typical ailments for a man his age, and values his privacy. In
American Photo there is even a photo of his metro card on which he's
drawn on his picture to make it even less recognizeable. I've walked
past his apartment and when I do I raise my Leica in salute. The best
tribute you can make to the man is to use your Leica honorably and with
purpose.
