James,

When I decided to enter the Leica world earlier this year, I went with the
regular M6 because I wanted a second-hand one for financial reasons. I have
since tried the M6HM and wish I had bought that instead. I use the 35mm as my
standard lens, and even the HM is OK for that. My wider lens is the 24mm, so
for that I need an external finder anyway. And for the longer lenses (I have
50mm, 75mm and 135mm) the HM is clearly superior. I have recently added an M3
to my bag. As the M3 has even greater magnification than the HM (0.91), I
really appreciate the advantages when using the longer lenses. If I were you,
I would go with the HM.
