Richard,

You are correct.  The Leica people say a hood is not absolutely neccesary on
this lens, although there is provision for using the same hood as the 24/2.8
and new 21/2.8.  The front element is fairly well recessed.  This is the first
Leica lens to not be supplied new with the hood.
